Bharat Mandir
About This Activity
Visit Bharat Mandir, believed to be the oldest temple in Rishikesh dating back to the 12th century (some believe even 9th century). This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of 'Hrishikesh Narayan', from which Rishikesh derives its name. The temple houses a black stone idol of Lord Vishnu which, according to legend, was installed by Adi Shankaracharya himself. The idol was found by Adi Shankaracharya after it was buried under debris for centuries. The temple's simple architecture reflects its ancient heritage. Located in the old town near Triveni Ghat, the temple provides a tranquil atmosphere for worship and meditation. The temple is particularly significant during major Hindu festivals and attracts devotees seeking blessings.
